Let's continue in diary format........
-Wednesday evening-I should have counted how many people came to help pack at mom and dad's house. But, I didn't. I think my whole family was there, minus 6. Plus some friends, and a cousin and her daughter; made for some quick work of packing. 2 hours and it was done. Some of the neighbours had prepared supper for all of us, so we got to go to the house across the road, for supper during packing, and once again for snack after we were done. I am so grateful for everyone who helped out. Amazing! I think we got home at midnight. The boys slept all the way home!
-Thursday-I can't rememer what we did. Really, I can't.
-Friday-Jayde and I left in the morning, for Fargo. He had his first game at 7 pm. Tied.
-Sat-Jayde played at 11 and 930. (pm) Shopped in between. ate.... And had quite the interesting evening. They issued a severe weather warning at 730 pm, for 815. For wind, rain, hail, and tornados. We had planned to leave for the rink at 815, from the motel. But looking at the sky to the west, and I decided to leave at 805. Trying to outrun/drive the storm. That cloud was so ominous looking. Dark blue/black with crazy swirls. I took a new route to the rink, which I hadn't taken before, but it was supposed to be faster. Halfway there, the trees started swaying and the rain started lightly, and then all of a sudden, there was static on the radio, and then a horn on the radio, and a crazy loud horn started wailing, right beside where we were parked at a red light! Well, my anxiety level was starting to elevate! The van in front of me started to drive, right thru the red light, and I wondered is this what they do here?? Obviously, the horn meant TORNADO-I remembered from the winter I spent in Texas as a kid. The announcement came over the radio to abandon all vehicles and find shelter in a large building. So I'm picking up the speed on the back roads, trying to get to the rink! Getting to shelter, you know. Got to the rink-sheets of rain by now. I dropped Jayde at the door with his equipment, and gave him strict instructions to stay by a wall, with a group of people and not take off on his own. I found a parking spot and ran into the rink. Soaked!! They had stopped all play at both rinks in the facility, and had herded all players into the halls along the dressing rooms, as they were in the middle of the building. All adults were huddled in groups in front of the TV, watching and listening to the storms progression. It lasted about 10 minutes, and no, we did not see a tornado! What relief! 1/2 hour delay and the games were on again. Drama, or what!! Got back to the hotel at midnight. The team won both their games.
-Sunday-Dennis took Jayde to the rink for 815, while I took Linda and the younger boys for game start at 915. Won that one. We checked out of the hotel, did lunch, walked in the stores, and then back to the rink for 415 game. They won that one as well. Hit the road at 635. Drive thru supper in Grand Forks, and off to the border. 5 min wait and we were back on Canadian soil. Home at midnight.
-Monday-reality is back. I went to mom and dad's fifth wheel trailer this morning to fetch her while my brothers, dad, and niece, went to Steinbach to meet the moving people. They get to load up while I get to watch my mom. I had her at my house this morning where she has cleaned my kitchen, and then we watched TV and chatted. We'll all go to the new house when the moving truck arrives.
So how is my mom doing?? Some days are better than others. She has very little energy and fatigues quickly. Any amount of exertion makes her very short of breath. Her playing around by my kitchen sink seemed to make her very happy. She has typically been the 'energizer bunny', and is having trouble adjusting to not being able to do everything. Her mind is running ahead of her and she's wishing she could keep up. Seems to be important to keep her occupied/distracted. Our minds are so sensitive, aren't they??? She just left for her trailer, (across the road) to have a nap. Then she'll come back here.
I have supper in the oven. I'll take it with us to town, and feed whoever will feel like eating. Hopefully we can get stuff into the house and set up enough for them to stay there tomorrow night.
So, hockey is done for this season. I'll wash it up this week and put it away! Don't know how I'll cope with grocery shopping. It's been so nice to have the variety in the city, to choose from.
I'm living the sunshine today! Supposed to be nice all week. Maybe it'll dry enough for me to cut my long grass and beautiful white flowers-hopefully in a few days!
