Where do I even start? It has been an eventful week!
Spring tea: Went very well. Had an amazing array of food contributions! And plenty of volunteers to make it all work out. Then, the kids did an awesome job at their festival pieces. What a great bunch of kids and staff!
I left clean up early to get onto my field work. Thank you to those who stayed and cleaned up to the bitter end. I went home, to go to town with the grain truck to get fertilizer. Got home to move some more cattle to pasture, and then put together supper. (Thankfully Jayde went to his practice in the city with Dennis, and went there after school already.) Then, I went to help Del with hooking up water in the pasture. Till now, we've had to fill up a water tank every day or two for them. So, now we were going to hook it up so it would pump from the well to the tank automatically. Sounds like an easy project, huh?? Well, it only got interesting for me! What's it with me and hoses?? There's a drainage ditch that runs through our pasture. Like 20-30 feet wide. And we had to get a hose across this ditch. So Del goes to one side with a 100' roll of hose. I'm on the other side ready to help him. I'm thinking I'm so smart, I've put on my farm rubber boots, so I can step to the edge of the water without getting my feet wet. Del starts unfurling this hose across the expanse of water. And I'm supposed to catch it on the other side. so imagine a black hose thats used to be in a coil, coming at you, and you're to catch it. I'm on the edge of the water, that has at least a foot drop off from the grass where I'm standing, and into the water. Del has tossed it at least 5 times, and it's not come into my grasp. He's getting frustrated, and I'm thinking I have to get it! So, one time, it comes close, and I touch it, and it floats away just out of my reach. The next time, I'm gonna get it! So there it is, in my hand and I'm thinking, YES! My feet slip and slide off the edge of the grass into the water and there I go. Into water, that's a little COLD! Soaked fromt the chest down. But, I had the hose! Finished that project and now its done! Went home for a warm shower. Ended that day by getting Jayde.
Thursday morning-now I'm nominated to take two bull to the vet to be semen checked. So, we load them on the trailer, hooked up to the tractor, and I go to town. Del told me I just needed to drop them off, and about 1/2 hour later I'd be ready to go home. I had asked him if I could watch what they do. He told me I'd have to ask them. Well, it's my lucky day. I got to unload the first bull. Chased him into the holding chute, (with great reluctance!), got to hold the machine that does the work, and then I got to do it all over again with the other bull. Loaded them back up and went home-by noon. Let me tell you, those bulls did not appreciate the procedure. For those of you-like me-who hadn't seen this done before, it was quite the experience. I got to stand at the bulls back end and hold this massive rocket looking thingy, vibrator, with an electrical cord, hooked to a black box, that emits electrical shocks. My, those things bucked with the first few shocks. The vet had told me to hold that thing so it wouldn't come out. Me, with one post between me and that big back end with two legs kicking. I was so relieved when that was over! My husband owes me for that experience!
I did make it home, to do something that afternoon, I can't remember what anymore. Actually, I think I might have napped for an hour. Supper, and then off to the city with the 3 hockey boys.
Friday, I did some farm stuff in the morning, and left by 10 to take Jayde to the city for his 2 games-tournament started for the weekend. Got home at 11. Saturday-I decided to send Jayde to his 2 games, with Dennis. I needed to stay home and get some work done. It was a power working day. Burnt straw, hauled seed and fertilizer, tilled some garden, laundry, planted some plants, cleaned the garage, cut grass, housework, cooked..........Productive day!
Sunday-out the door by 730. Jayde had a game at 10 and 615. Had a nap at my nieces apartment between games. Home by 1030. It's amazing how driving and doing nothing can get so tiring!
Monday morning-it's drizzling lightly, and its so nice to have a laid back morning. Jayde doesn't have any hockey today, and Kyle has only a practice tonight. So, we get to be home till 4. Must be time to clean up the massive pile of mail and newspapers that's taken over my dining table. The boys had a wonderful sleep in! Hope they enjoyed it cuz its the last one for awhile!
My parents have been out this weekend, and they've been coming by to check up on Kyle, while we've been out. Del has 2/3 of the seeding done. He's been going strong! Another couple of days should wrap it up. My brother has been helping us out and has been a great help!
I'm gonna get going and tackle that paper pile!!! Have a good day!
